The investigation was launched after a court forced the city to release dash cam video showing the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald.
Crain’s reported that Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale & Dorr will be the lead firm, and will be supported by the Chicago office of Taft Stettinius & Hollister. Wilmer Hale is also representing the city of Baltimore in their Justice Department investigation.
The investigation into the police department is expected to be lengthy and expensive. The law firms Chicago could charge the city up to $1,200 an hour for some services.
